December 7th, 2017, every parent’s worstnightmare became our reality when ourfiery little redhead ended her own life. While we struggled to understand how we would survive, we knew one thing for sure - we would make it our mission to educate parents and teens in an effort to keep others from experiencing the pain we were left with after losing our daughter.
We all will have times in our lives where we find it necessary to shift gears. For Regan Johnson, it was on the race track doing what she loved. For those of us she left behind… we find ourselves continuing to shift gears in search of our own “new normal”; trying to adjust to a life without our child.
Regan's parents — BJ & Jeremy Wilson and Mark Johnson started Shifting Gears in 2018 and continue to fund & develop suicide awareness and prevention initiatives throughout the Kansas City area.
Suicide continues to be the 2nd leading cause of death among teenagers. Shifting Gears is focused on raising awareness to teen suicide prevention and in helping families navigate life after the sudden loss of their child to suicide.
Shifting Gears for Regan is a non-profit fund under the Miami County Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization based in Paola, KS.
The Foundation assists donors in achieving their philanthropic objectives through the establishment of restricted and unrestricted endowments.
